Remembering Isabella Allen

The Democratic Party of Denver is saddened by the recent passing of long-time Denver Democratic Party leader and community activist Isabella Allen. Ms. Allen was a huge presence in her community of northeast Denver. In addition to serving for many years as captain for House District 7A – where she organized the annual Unity Dinner, which welcomed hundreds of people, including prominent community leaders – she worked tirelessly to organize and advocate for her community in Montbello and Green Valley Ranch. She was the recipient of the Democratic Party of Denver’s Frank Sullivan Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.

Isabella was an active member of the Ministers Political Group, the National Education Association, the National Mental Health Association, Optimist International, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Police Advisory Council, Far Northeast Neighborhood Association and Ascension Catholic Church.

She was esteemed by fellow community leaders, including Senator James Coleman, who said, “Ms. Isabella Allen served as a trailblazer for public service and much more. We remember Ms. Allen for her leadership, excellence and service. I extend my deepest respect and condolences to her family. May Ms. Isabella Allen Rest In Power.”

Former RTD Director Chris Martinez said, “For over 40 years, Ms. Isabella Allen, our friend, has played a pivotal role in the Montbello GOTV. She will be sorely missed every future election cycle!”

Isabella worked as an educator and a counseling psychologist. She graduated from Florida State University and was married to Charles M. Allen, who was the operational superintendent of public works in Denver.

We invite you to join the community in remembering this towering figure of our Democratic Party family. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Church of Ascension Catholic Parish, 14050 Maxwell Place. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave.
