The Big Ugly Bill and the Path Forward Together

My fellow Americans,

By a single vote, the GOP managed to get its bill through the House and is headed to the Senate. If it passes the Senate without changes, it has so, so many notable provisions in it that hurt all Americans:

Huge cuts to Medicaid.

Huge cuts to Medicare.

Huge cuts to SNAP.

Hungry kids don't get good grades. Sick people don’t go to work.

This bill, if it passes the Senate unchanged, will balloon our debt by trillions, primarily via massive tax cuts, but almost all the benefits of these cuts go to the wealthiest Americans.

This will all come at the same time that tariffs cause inflation, supply shocks, and slowed economic activity.

Just as your businesses shutter their doors, private equity will have more capital than ever to buy your businesses and assets for pennies on the dollar.

Our country’s increased debt will be more expensive; the bill's passing through the House has already gotten our country’s debt downgraded. Investors have lost trust in our government’s ability to pay them back, and are demanding higher yields on bonds.

This bill will damage our economy — and its consequences will hit all of us: you, me, and every American trying to get by.

We have to have conversations that unite us, that invoke action, or these kinds of bills and the pain they cause you and the rest of your fellow Americans is simply going to be the new normal in America.

We can get through this. Together we have the answers, together we have the courage to face what comes, together, we can build an America where no one is given special treatment because of their family name or personal connections.

 We can elect leaders who are transparent, accountable, and who speak to us as equals.

This fight is winnable. But only if we show up. Call. March. Vote. Speak. Connect. Let’s make this a turning point, not a breaking point. Together, let’s hold our electeds accountable, and build a government that works for all of us.
